The 2.4 GHz workhorse: a Nordic nRF24L01+ with a PCB trace antenna, four SPI wires, and hardware that handles addressing, auto-acknowledge and retries for you. Six data pipes on any of 125 one-megahertz channels, 250 kbps to 2 Mbps in the air, and it transmits on only 11.3 mA. Reckon on tens of metres indoors and roughly 50-100 m in the open - if that is not enough, the PA+LNA version with the screw-on antenna is the upgrade.
