The MQ-9 covers two hazards with one element: carbon monoxide from about 10 to 1000 ppm, and combustible gases such as methane and LPG from 100 to 10,000 ppm. It manages that by cycling its heater - 5V for 60 seconds to read flammable gas and burn the element clean, then 1.5V for 90 seconds to read CO - so a real CO figure means driving that cycle in software, usually with PWM. Held at a steady 5V it still works as a combustible-gas alarm.
