A mains transformer with a 12V - 0 - 12V centre-tapped secondary rated at 1 A, on a laminated EI core with mounting brackets and flying leads, and primary taps for 110V or 220V at 50/60 Hz. The centre tap is the useful part: 12V AC either side of it, 24V AC across the ends, or a split plus/minus 12V rail for op-amps and audio. It gives AC, so a bridge rectifier and smoothing capacitor still follow - and the primary side is mains, to be wired and enclosed with care.
