The small red SIM800L breakout: a quad-band 2G module that sends and receives SMS, makes and takes voice calls and carries GPRS data, all driven by AT commands over a serial port. The catch is power. It wants 3.4-4.4V (4.0V is ideal) and pulls up to 2 A in transmit bursts, so it needs its own supply - an Arduino's 5V or 3.3V pin will brown it out and it will reboot mid-message. Micro-SIM holder on the back, u.FL antenna socket on top; no antenna with this version.
