Sharp's smallest rangefinder: a CMOS imager and an infrared LED that triangulate distance from 4 to 50 cm and hand back a number over I2C, so there is no analog curve to linearise and no ultrasonic cone to worry about. The whole sensor is 16.7 x 11 mm, works from as little as 2.7V, draws around 26 mA while ranging and produces a new reading roughly every 40 ms. It ships with the fine-pitch connector cable fitted, which is the fiddly part of using one.
