A passive 5:1 divider on a tiny board - 30k over 7.5k - that brings a battery or supply voltage down into the range an analog input can read. On a 5V, 10-bit Arduino that means up to 25V measured in roughly 0.024V steps; on a 3.3V board the ceiling is about 16.5V. Screw terminal for the supply being measured, 3-pin header to the microcontroller. There is no chip and nothing to configure, which is exactly why it never surprises you.
Key features
- Reads up to 25V on a 5V board, about 16.5V on 3.3V
- Fixed 5:1 divider, 30k and 7.5k resistors
- Roughly 0.024V steps on a 10-bit 5V ADC
- Screw terminal in, 3-pin header out
- Passive - no chip, no configuration
- Not isolated - it shares ground with your board
