A bare 5 mm CdS light-dependent resistor - roughly 10-20 kilohm in room light and over 1 megohm in the dark, with its peak response at 540 nm, close to the eye's own. Two leads and no electronics: wire it in a divider with a fixed resistor (10 kilohm is a good start) and read the midpoint on any analog pin. The cheapest way there is to sense light and dark for night-lights, automatic lighting and light-following robots.
Key features
- Light resistance 10-20 kilohm at 10 lux
- Dark resistance 1 megohm minimum
- Peak response 540 nm, close to human vision
- Bare 2-lead part - needs a divider resistor
- Rated 100V, 100 mW maximum
- For night-lights and light-following robots
