A slotted optical switch rather than a loose emitter-and-detector pair: one moulded body carries an infrared LED facing a phototransistor across an open gap, with two drilled mounting flanges and four leads underneath. Anything passing through the slot breaks the beam and the phototransistor turns off - which is how you build a tachometer with a slotted disc, an end-stop for a 3D printer or CNC axis, or a limit sensor that never touches what it senses.
Key features
- Slotted opto-interrupter - LED and detector in one body
- An object in the slot breaks the beam
- Four leads: LED anode and cathode, collector, emitter
- Two flanges with screw mounting holes
- For encoder discs, end-stops and limit sensing
- Through-beam, not reflective - the object crosses the gap
