A fixed 12V linear regulator in TO-220 - three pins, two capacitors and you have a clean 12V rail. It supplies up to 1.5 A with a heatsink, accepts up to 35V in, and needs roughly 2V of headroom, so feed it 14.5V or more. Current limiting, thermal shutdown and safe-area protection make it hard to kill. The trade-off is heat: a linear regulator burns the input-output difference, so 24V down to 12V at 0.5 A means 6 W to get rid of - use a buck converter if efficiency matters.
