The standard I2C real-time clock chip: it counts seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month and year with leap-year correction to 2100, in 12- or 24-hour form, and gives you 56 bytes of battery-backed RAM alongside. Add a 32.768 kHz crystal and a 3 V coin cell and it keeps time on under 500 nA while the rest of the board is off. Talks to any microcontroller at I2C address 0x68, and the SQW pin can output 1 Hz, 4 kHz, 8 kHz or 32 kHz.
Key features
- I2C interface, slave address 0x68
- 56 bytes of battery-backed NV SRAM
- Leap-year correction valid to 2100
- Under 500 nA on the backup battery
- Square-wave output: 1 Hz, 4 kHz, 8 kHz or 32 kHz
- Needs an external 32.768 kHz crystal
