A small precision current transformer for measuring AC current without contact: thread the live wire through the hole and the 1000:1 winding gives 5 mA out for 5 A in, linear to about 10 A and to class 0.2 accuracy. The 4500V isolation is what makes it safe to have an Arduino anywhere near mains. It is the bare transformer, so you add a burden resistor and a mid-rail bias before the ADC - the basis of any home-built energy meter.
