An 8-bit serial-in, parallel-out shift register with a latch on every stage: clock eight bits in on three wires, pull STROBE high and all eight outputs change at once. The parallel outputs are three-state and an output-enable pin floats them, so several devices can share a bus. Two serial outputs, one on the rising clock edge and one on the falling, let you daisy-chain for 16, 24 or more outputs. Unlike a 74HC595 it will run on a 12 V or 15 V rail.
Key features
- 8-stage shift-and-store register, 16-pin DIP
- Three-state parallel outputs with output-enable
- STROBE latches all eight outputs together
- Two serial outputs for fast or slow cascading
- Runs 3 V to 18 V, unlike the 2-6 V 74HC595
- 5 MHz typical clock rate at 10 V
