The cheapest way to put Wi-Fi on a project. An ESP8266EX with a printed antenna and an 8-pin header, running 802.11 b/g/n on 2.4 GHz - drive it with AT commands from an Arduino, or throw the AT firmware away and program the ESP8266 directly from the Arduino IDE. Two GPIO pins are broken out (GPIO0 and GPIO2), plus TX and RX which double as GPIO1 and GPIO3. It is 3.3V only, and it needs a supply that can deliver real current during transmit.
Key features
- ESP8266EX with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n on 2.4 GHz
- 1 MB flash on the black 'AI-Cloud inside' board pictured
- 2 usable GPIO (GPIO0, GPIO2) plus TX/RX as GPIO1/GPIO3
- 3.3V only - 5V on any pin destroys the module
- Needs a 3.3V supply good for ~500 mA on transmit peaks
- Under 10 uA in deep sleep
- Run AT commands, or flash your own firmware
