The DFPlayer Mini is a postage-stamp MP3 player: put files on a microSD card of up to 32 GB, wire a small speaker straight to SPK1 and SPK2, and drive it from any microcontroller over a 9600 baud serial link. Its 24-bit DAC gives 90 dB of dynamic range and the built-in amplifier will drive a speaker of up to 3 W, with 30 volume steps. It runs on 3.2-5V, so it sits happily beside an Arduino or an ESP32 - the usual home for talking gadgets, alarms, museum-style trigger boxes and toys.
