One long board carrying two slotted infrared gates, one for each wheel of a 2WD chassis. A notched encoder disc on the axle passes through the slot and each gate puts out a pulse train the microcontroller counts, so you know how fast and how far each side has turned. Runs on 4.5-5.5V and gives two independent digital channels - which is what lets a differential-drive robot hold a straight line and turn by a measured amount instead of by guesswork.
Key features
- Two independent slot gates on one board
- One channel per wheel for 2WD odometry
- 4.5 - 5.5V DC supply
- Digital pulse output, counted on an interrupt pin
- Needs a slotted encoder disc on the axle
- For straight-line driving and measured turns
