A MAX485 breakout that converts a microcontroller's 5V TTL serial into RS-485 - the differential two-wire bus industrial gear uses because it survives long cable runs and electrical noise that would wreck plain serial. Four pins face the microcontroller (RO, RE, DE, DI) and a green screw terminal takes the A and B wires. Half duplex, so a spare GPIO flips it between talking and listening. What you put between an Arduino and a Modbus meter or a long sensor run.
Key features
- MAX485CSA transceiver, 5V supply
- Screw terminal for the A / B differential pair
- Half duplex - one pin flips between send and receive
- RS-485 buses run to about 1200 m with at least 32 nodes
- Shrugs off noise that would break plain TTL serial
- For Modbus RTU meters, drives and long sensor runs
