The European small-signal NPN transistor, and the default in most European and Indian textbook circuits. It handles 45V and up to 100 mA with a very high current gain - 110 to 800 depending on the A, B or C suffix - and low noise, which is what makes it good in the first stage of an audio preamp as well as for switching an LED or a small relay from a logic pin.
