A high-voltage NPN in a TO-92: 160V collector-emitter, 180V collector-base, 600 mA and 625 mW, with hFE usually in the 80-250 band. The voltage rating is the point - where a BC547 gives up at 45V this one keeps going, which is why it appears in nixie and VFD drivers, valve preamp stages, flash triggers and anything running off a 100V-plus rail. Its usual PNP partner is the 2N5401. For heavy current rather than high voltage, use a TIP transistor or a MOSFET.
