Two general-purpose op-amps in an 8-pin DIP, and the easiest analogue chip to get working on a single supply: the input range reaches right down to the negative rail, so you can amplify a sensor sitting near 0 V without a split supply. Runs on 3 V to 30 V, 0.7 MHz gain-bandwidth, about 0.35 mA per amplifier. Ideal for sensor buffers, comparators, filters and level shifting - if you need low noise for audio, use the NE5532 instead.
