The negative-rail counterpart to the LM317: an adjustable three-terminal regulator that holds a constant -1.25 V between its output and adjust pins, so two resistors set anything from -1.2 V down to -37 V, at up to 1.5 A. It is what you use for the negative half of a split supply feeding op-amps, audio stages and analogue instrumentation. Ripple rejection is about 77 dB and it needs only an output capacitor for compensation.
