The receiving half of a laser trip-wire: a laser detector on a small board with an indicator LED and a 3-pin header, so its output changes state the moment a beam stops landing on it. Aim a 650 nm laser module (a KY-008 or similar) at it across a doorway, a corridor or a conveyor and you have a beam-break detector for alarms, counters and start/finish gates.
