The classic decade counter: a 5-stage Johnson counter with ten decoded outputs, one and only one of which is high at a time, stepping along on every clock pulse. It is the chip behind LED chasers, sequencers and divide-by-N circuits, and the Carry Out pin completes a cycle every ten clocks so chips can be chained. Runs on 3 V to 18 V, and the Schmitt-trigger clock input copes with slow, scruffy edges.
Key features
- Ten decoded outputs, one high at a time
- Clock, Clock Inhibit and Reset inputs
- Carry Out divides by 10 for cascading
- Supply 3 V to 18 V
- Schmitt-trigger clock takes slow edges
- 16-pin DIP, easy on breadboard
