The three-pin infrared receiver that turns a TV remote into an input for your project. Inside is a photodiode, a preamplifier and a 38 kHz band-pass filter, so it strips the carrier and hands the microcontroller a clean demodulated bitstream for IRremote and similar libraries to decode. It runs on 2.7 to 5.5V at about 1.4 mA, sees roughly 45 degrees off-axis and works to around 15 m. Note it responds only to 38 kHz modulated IR, not steady infrared - and check the pin order before powering it.
