The bare pyroelectric element that sits behind the white plastic dome of every PIR motion detector, in a three-pin TO-5 metal can. Two sensing elements share the 4 x 3 mm window and are wired in opposition, so a slow room-wide temperature drift cancels out while a warm body crossing the field produces a signal. It responds over 5-14 um, the band human body heat sits in, and runs from 3V to 15V. This is the sensing component for building or repairing your own detector.
