A pocket battery tester with a sprung sliding contact for AAA, AA, C, D and N cells, snap contacts for a 9V block and a separate pair for 1.55V button cells. It reads out on a bar-graph scale marked GOOD, WEAK and POOR, with printed scales running 0.7-1.5V for the small cells and 1.8-9.0V for a 9V. It draws its own working power from the battery under test, so there is nothing to charge or replace - just slide a cell in and see whether it is worth keeping.
