The original high-power NPN workhorse, in the diamond-shaped TO-3 metal can: 60 V, 10 A and 80 W of dissipation, with a current gain of 20 to 100 at 4 A. Decades of linear bench supplies, class-AB audio output stages and battery chargers were built on it, and it is still the part people reach for when they want something that will not die. Note the case itself is the collector, so it needs a mica insulator if the heatsink is grounded.
