A 5V open-frame push-pull solenoid set up as an electric latch. At rest a return spring holds the plunger out so the bolt is thrown; energise the coil and it pulls in and releases. That makes it the actuator behind DIY RFID door locks, keypad entry and cabinet locks. Drive it through a MOSFET or relay from its own supply with a flyback diode, and pulse it to unlock rather than holding it on.

Key features

  • 5V DC coil
  • Spring-return plunger - locked when unpowered
  • Energise to retract the bolt and release
  • Open-frame construction with mounting holes
  • For RFID, keypad and smart-lock projects
  • Needs a MOSFET or relay plus a flyback diode
