An open-hardware optical pulse sensor about the size of a coin: a green LED shines into a fingertip or earlobe and an APDS-9008 photosensor watches the light that comes back, with an amplifier and filter on board turning the tiny pulse into a clean analog waveform. Three flying leads, one analog pin, and the PulseSensor library does the beats-per-minute maths. It needs a still hand, and it is not a medical instrument.
Key features
- Green LED plus APDS-9008 photosensor - reflective PPG
- Amplifier and filter on board, output swings around Vcc/2
- Analog output - one ADC pin, library does the BPM
- 3V to 5V, about 4 mA at 5V
- About 16 mm across, 3 mounting holes, ~610 mm lead
- Movement-sensitive; a hobby sensor, not a medical device
