A Japanese-made Nidec Copal motor with a tachogenerator built into the same can, so it hands you a speed signal on its own pair of leads with no encoder disc to align. That is why these ended up in tape decks, plotters and instruments - closed-loop speed control from one part. Supplied as a 3-6V unit, with a colour-coded lead bundle carrying the motor supply and the tacho output separately.
