A flat membrane keypad with sixteen keys - 0-9, A-D, star and hash - wired as a 4x4 matrix, so the whole thing needs only eight pins. Scan the four rows, read the four columns, and the Arduino Keypad library does the rest: PIN entry, menu navigation or plain number input. It is under a millimetre thick with an adhesive back, so it sticks straight onto a panel or an enclosure lid, and the ribbon tail ends in an 8-pin header that drops into a breadboard.
