The metal bar at the heart of a digital scale. Weight applied across it flexes it by a tiny amount, four strain gauges wired as a Wheatstone bridge change resistance with the flex, and the bridge output shifts by a few millivolts - far too small to read on an Arduino pin, so it pairs with an HX711 amplifier board. Rated for 5 kg, which covers kitchen scales, small parcel weighing, hopper level sensing and force experiments.
