A vertical float switch for tanks: a magnet inside the sliding float closes a reed contact in the stem as the liquid rises past it. It is a dry contact with no electronics, so it needs no supply at all - wire it to a digital input with a pull-up and read it like a button. The threaded body and nut mount it through a tank wall or lid, which makes it the straightforward way to signal tank-full, tank-empty or dry-run to a pump controller.
